Issue 142 - On sale now
Contents:
Well a lot has happened since issue 141! As our loyal readers will know, Marion and I had reluctantly decided to close down the REVIEW at the end of this year.
Then - and it all happened very quickly - the great news is that this special magazine of ours, started by Roy all those years ago, will continue under the custodianship of Guideline Publications. I will remain editor until issue 144 supported by Gary Hatcher and then Gary will take over. Gary has written an introduction on page 287. Please also see the new contact details below. So, very happily, back to business as usual.
This issue has a strong focus on Devon & Cornwall - an area with exceptional mineral wealth and consequently a lot of narrow gauge and industrial interest. We lead with a remarkable multi-gauge layout based on the old Torrington & Marland Clay Works, built by the Launceston & District MRC. Your editor saw it as a work in progress last year at the EXE Model Railway Society show and it was a real pleasure to see it finished recently.
If you get the chance please visit this year's show in Exeter in June to see it.
We also feature articles on the Kelly Mine - a remarkable preserved Devon Iron mine; the East Cornwall Mineral Railway Neilson locomotives; and an 'historic' letter about a visit to old Cornish china clay line. Your editor gives a brief update on his long term Pentewan Light Railway project. The mystery around the crane model featured in issue 141 has now been solved. John Elliot is now in touch and outlines his lifetime project ambitions in this issue - there will be plenty more to come in future issues.
Lastly, but certainly not least, we conclude the remarkable story of Mr Charles Hunt's Innovative Railways so comprehensively covered by Marty Johnston.
Hopefully something of interest to all our readers. It remains a privilege to present all of this superb material in this wonderful magazine of ours.
As always we wish you all the very best with your health, families, hobbies and interests.
John
