Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice, Italy.
The masks are typically worn during the Carnival (Carnival of Venice), but have been used on many other occasions in the past, usually as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status.
The mask would permit the wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters.

Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London built between 1886 and 1894. The bridge crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and has become an iconic symbol of London. Because of this, Tower Bridge is sometimes confused with London Bridge, situated some half a mile upstream. Tower Bridge is one of five London bridges now owned and maintained by the Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the City of London Corporation. It is the only one of the Trust's bridges not to connect the City of London directly to the Southwark bank, as its northern landfall is in Tower Hamlets.

Gloria Swanson

Gloria Josephine May Swanson (March 27, 1899 - April 4, 1983) was an American actress, producer, and businesswoman. She first achieved fame acting in dozens of silent films in the 1920s and was nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Actress, most famously for her 1950 return in Billy Wilder's Sunset Boulevard, which also earned her a Golden Globe Award.

Swanson was born in Chicago and raised in a military family that moved from base to base. Her schoolgirl crush on Essanay Studios actor Francis X. Bushman led to her aunt taking her to tour the actor's Chicago studio. The 15-year-old Swanson was offered a brief walk-on for one film as an extra, beginning her life's career in front of the cameras.
Swanson was soon hired to work in California for Mack Sennett's Keystone Studios comedy shorts opposite Bobby Vernon. She was eventually recruited by Famous Players-Lasky/Paramount Pictures, where she was put under contract for seven years.

Welcome to the World of Exotics!
Here you can find information on reptiles, including snakes, lizards, turtles, terrapins and tortoises, as well as amphibians, whether you're looking for frogs and toads or newts and salamanders. This is also the section of the site where you can discover more about invertebrates, such as stick insects (also known as walking sticks), tarantulas plus land hermit crabs, although if you want details on aquatic members of this group, such as sea anemones, then they're included in the fish section.

Meet the UK's most expensive snake!

This soul sucker royal python is the most exclusive of the current colour morphs - or varieties - which have been created over recent years in this very popular African species. It is also known as the ball python because of the way it can roll up.

Crystal Palace Reptiles, based in south London, specialise in these snakes and have handled many of the rarer morphs, typically having up to 60 different varieties in stock at any time, some of which they breed themselves.

This particular individual is on offer for almost £14,000. It is no wonder that in this field, there are champagne, pinstripe and platinum morphs too!

John Lewis is considering more store closures as it tries to cut costs and adapt to the boom in online shopping. In what would be another blow for the High Street, the BBC understands up to eight department stores may remain permanently closed. That would be on top of the eight stores it shut last year, which included two small travel hub shops at Heathrow and St Pancras. That could leave it with 34 stores, down from its current total of 42.
John Lewis has declined to comment on the potential move, which was first reported by the Sunday Times. Any closures would be another blow to the high street and town centres, which are already grappling with the fall-out from the collapse of Debenhams and Sir Philip Green's Arcadia empire.
The rise in internet shopping, exacerbated by various lockdown measures amid coronavirus, has forced John Lewis to rethink how many stores it needs.
It has been estimated that the value of royal python morphs being sold worldwide currently adds up to over a hundred million of pounds annually, with North America and Germany also being major centres where these snakes are being bred.

Testimonials
I just felt the need to email and say what a absolutely fantastic job you have done on my Mountain Bike. As I explained 3 previousbBike shops(including major brands) failed to do what you and your team have done.
The Bike rides beautifully now. And the service ultimately has been impeccable.
Thanks again.
Chris Mansell

Wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable staff who go the extra mile. First rate.
Pauline Willoughby

Great service again BikeBase!
All our family bikes have come from Dan and the team, and a quick build this time made a 9 yr old very happy with her new ride.
Thank you :)
Dean Ovel

Hi. Just wanted to say a big thank you for the superb job you did on my bike, which I collected this morning. It now rides brilliantly and I'm encouraged to get out on it more! Considering all the parts and labour involved I thought the price was very fair too.
Best wishes
Joe Stevens

Hi Dan / Colin / Wayne
This is your No 1 fan, Clive Leatherdale, emailing you from sunny Cape Town. Jenny and I leave here on a cruise ship on 28 April, arriving in Southend on Saturday, 17 May.
Can Jenny possibly hire her usual Premier ladies bike please at the same price, £130, with 50% refunded when she goes back home?
This time Jenny returns to Cape Town about 25 June, then returns to Southend about 25 August for another two months. It might be possible for you to let her have extended use of the bike, which you could keep in store for the two months she is back in Cape Town. Please advise.
Thank you for your wonderful service.
Clive

Hi there, just a thanks to Wayne for some excellent sales advice today regarding the Giant Twist for my wife. We took a short trip down to the local pub to rest it out (her on the batteries, me on the thighs) and ..... it's certainly going to solve our initial problem of us beng able to go out cycling together, but, the bike's so good, it's going to create a new problem....what's she going to do with her time, while she gets off and waits for me every 3 miles!
So, thanks again.....great product, sold in a friendly, intelligent and knowledgable way...praise where praise is due!
take care dudes
Steve

Hi Danny
On the 23rd December I bought a Falcon Storm (paid £149.99 cash), for my wife for Christmas. Unfortunately, it is too big for her you may remember we discussed this in the shop. On top of this, she's recently fallen down the stairs and broken her foot, and can't ride it anyway! Can I ask what your policy is on refunds, please? I know we don't have a right to a refund as the goods are not faulty, but I can honestly say the bike has not been ridden and is in pristine condition.
Hope you can help, I'd be genuinely grateful.
Seasons greetings!

Derrick Stott

Hi Danny
Many thanks for your help today, I'm genuinely grateful. Please feel free to use the following quote for your website, if you wish. I will be back with my wife later, once her foot has healed, and I will spread the good word about your shop.  If you want good, old-fashioned service from people with integrity, Bikebase is for you. No pressure, good advice and great aftersales help. I'm no expert on bikes, but the friendly and helpful staff made it a pleasure to shop there. I'm not surprised it has such a great reputation - I'd recommend Bikebase to anyone and I'll definitely be back.
Derrick Stott, Wakering.
And I mean every word! Thanks again Derrick

Thanks to the staff at Bikebase for a superb service. I couldn't recommend them highly enough.
David Black, Hullbridge

I have a commuter fold-up (six months old) and a stumpy FSR (brand new, nicccce), had a few issues with the brakes on the fold-up and Bikebase was the only place with a service slot, never used them before and had to get it done beofre the working week.
Well what can I say, I am really, really happy, the service both customer and technical was excellent. The cost was very reasonable and the place had a real good vibe. I asked if I needed a full service and the guy took a look and then SAVED me some money by saying it was only the brakes that needed doing!!! How refreshing to get someone who tries to save you money. I usually use Richardsons in leigh and think that these guys now have some competition. BikeBase is certainly a little gem that I will without doubt be using again. Thanks guys
David Singleton

Great help with my BMX purchase. The service was second to none.
Camy Martins, Rayleigh

amazing service well trusted
I always take my bike there to get serviced or repaired if or when it breaks and i always get it back in better than new condition. very affordable. excellent customer service.

Over time, Grahame became increasingly concerned with her physical appearance; she particularly felt her upper lip was too thin and had ridges that were too deep. She began stuffing cotton or tissues under it, which she felt gave her a sexier look. Several co-stars discovered this during kissing scenes.

In the mid-1940s, Grahame began undergoing small cosmetic procedures on her lips and face. According to her niece, Vicky Mitchum, Grahame's obsession with her looks led her to undergo more cosmetic procedures that rendered her upper lip largely immobile because of nerve damage.
Mitchum said, "Over the years, she [Grahame] carved herself up, trying to make herself into an image of beauty she felt should exist but didn't. Others saw her as a beautiful person, but she never did, and crazy things spread from that

Selznick was pleased with Goddard's performances, particularly her work in The Young in Heart, and considered her for the role of Scarlett O'Hara. Initial screen tests convinced Selznick and director George Cukor that Goddard would require coaching to be effective in the role, but that she showed promise, and she was the first actress given a Technicolor screen test.

Russell Birdwell, the head of Selznick's publicity department, had strong misgivings about Goddard. He warned Selznick of the "tremendous avalanche of criticism that will befall us and the picture should Paulette be given this part...I have never known a woman, intent on a career dependent upon her popularity with the masses, to hold and live such an insane and absurd attitude towards the press and her fellow man as does Paulette Goddard...
Briefly, I think she is dynamite that will explode in our very faces if she is given the part."

Mr. and Mrs. Hardy wish to have a quiet night in their apartment, but are interrupted when Mr. and Mrs. Laurel pay a visit. After Stan says he'd like to go for ice cream, he and Ollie go out to fetch some. On their way back home, they prevent a shrewish woman named Kate from committing suicide. Kate is ungrateful and makes threats against the boys unless they look after her. They spend a frantic evening trying to keep her out of sight from their wives. Kate is eventually hidden in the Hardys' bathroom with Stan.
Kate is shortly exposed and arrested as a wanted criminal by a policeman summoned by the apartment-block doorman, and Stan is informed that he is entitled to a $1,000 reward for her capture. When Stan suggests spending the money on ice cream, Ollie washes him down the bath plughole.
Brexit uncertainty has gripped the nation as Theresa May faces the wrath of her own party by looking to secure the support of Labour's Jeremy Corbyn in her bid to rule out no deal. Leavers across the nation fear that the historic result of the 2016 referendum could be betrayed, as Nigel Farage looks to be on a collision course with the establishment once more through the emerging Brexit Party. However, euroscepticism in the UK is nothing new and several campaigners, not least the late Tony Benn, devoted their lives to securing Britain's withdrawal from the bloc.
Chaplin's childhood in London was one of poverty and hardship, as his father was absent and his mother struggled financially, and he was sent to a workhouse twice before the age of nine. When he was 14, his mother was committed to a mental asylum. Chaplin began performing at an early age, touring music halls and later working as a stage actor and comedian. At 19, he was signed to the prestigious Fred Karno company, which took him to America. He was scouted for the film industry and began appearing in 1914 for Keystone Studios. He soon developed the Tramp persona and formed a large fan base. He directed his own films and continued to hone his craft as he moved to the Essanay, Mutual, and First National corporations. By 1918, he was one of the best-known figures in the world.

Servicing and Maintenance
Under current legislation all fire alarm detection systems should be subject to routine servicing and maintenance at least every six months to ensure they remain fully operational and effective in the event of an emergency, this is a requirement of BS EN 5839.

Effective and regular maintenance of a CCTV surveillance system is essential to ensure that the system remains reliable at all times. Regular maintenance by Defence Fire and Security, and effective failure reporting by the user, will enable potential problems to be identified at an early stage so that appropriate action can be taken.

A planned maintenance visit allows the CCTV engineers to carry out a complete audit of the CCTV surveillance system, the documentation associated with the CCTV system, and the training requirements of operators.
The CCTV surveillance system should receive at least one planned maintenance visit each year. However, additional planned maintenance visits may be required depending on the complexity of the system, the environmental conditions, and the need to change 'perishable items' e.g. wiper blades and washer bottle refiling.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 all fire doors, especially those within buildings occupied or used by the public, require regular servicing to ensure they function correctly and will prove to be effective barriers against hot gases, smoke and fire in the event of an emergency.
Defence Fire and Security are experienced in servicing all systems and offer a convenient call out service to troubleshoot and resolve any equipment malfunctions for maximum system performance and effectiveness. We take steps to ensure that all servicing and any necessary repairs can be performed quickly and cost effectively by making sure that a vast range of parts are readily available.

Furthermore, at Defence Fire and Security we provide servicing and maintenance plans tailored to meet both the particular needs of your environment and your budget. This means that our customers are never left with systems that have not been maintained properly and as such may not operate effectively in the event of an emergency.
